Community Development in Africa Appeal

At Fleet Town Colts we are very aware of how lucky and privileged we are with facilities and resources for our children to enjoy and develop their love of football. This is not the case for many of the worlds poorer countries and so we have chosen KitAid as our club charity to help those children and adults who are less fortunate.

What is KitAid? KitAid is a charity that sends unwanted football kits to children and adults across Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. It was started in 1998 when Derrick Williams, a Three Valleys Water employee, visited Tanzania with the charity WaterAid. Derrick, who is passionate about football, realised that young children in villages in Tanzania shared the same love of football. When he returned home Derrick spoke to friends and colleagues and soon afterwards the first box of football kit was on its way to the children he’d met in Tanzania.
In 2006 Kit Aid has dispatched over 250 boxes ( that’s over 10,000 shirts) across the world. If you want to see more of the fantastic work KitAid has achieved so far then have a look at their website at : http://www.3valleys.co.uk/kitaid
Our clubs efforts are led by Keith Botevyle , the clubs Kit and Equipment manager who introduced the charity to Fleet Town Colts. Keith is very passionate about the charity and has set up Fleet Town Colts as the hub for the co-ordination and collection of kit in the local area. With a lot of the squads getting new kits this season we have already got a large supply of kits ready to send off to those whose need is far greater than ours. Keith has also collected around 30 pairs of old football boots which are also in great demand in the poorer countries KitAid supports. In November 2006 Keith was interviewed live on air by County Sounds Radio Station and also featured in a newspaper article put out by The Mail Group to advertise the work Fleet Town Colts are aiming to achieve for this charity.

How can you help? If you have any old football strips, or boots, at home then we would be only too pleased to take them off your hands and donate them to KitAid. We can guarantee that your donation will bring a smile to a childs face and it will be valued for many years to come.
